The Tennis Courts
Baywood Racquet Club is the place to enjoy everything tennis in one location. Our state of the art clay courts allow players to develop a better, more well-rounded game. The Har-Tru clay surface absorbs water quickly to get players back on the courts after a rain shower. The ball bounces a bit slower than other surfaces, which allows for more time to get to the ball, resulting in longer rallies that are less strenuous on the body. The clay courts retain their moisture and on average are 20% cooler than hard courts, even during the hottest days of the summer.
If your game is played in the evening, then our floodlights have got you covered. All courts at Baywood have floodlighting and included in your monthly membership fee. Once your game has finished, grab a drink and a seat on the porch of our clubhouse to unwind in the beautiful surroundings.

Baywood Staff
We’re fortunate to have some of the best staff members in the region to support our
members in all their tennis endeavors. Meet our staff below!
Baywood Racquet Club is Founded—Est. 1977
Baywood Racquet Club began its life in 1977, built by Joe Exum. Joe always had a dream of building the first clay courts in Pitt county, and with the assistance of his wife Mo, they made it a reality. Initially, the club was planned for the east side of Greenville until they found Baywood Drive. They even planted pine trees that are still standing today. The club grew from the original two courts to the five courts we enjoy today.
Construction on the Baywood Clubhouse Begins—Circa 1994
In 1994 Henry Hostetler purchased the club from Joe and Mo Exum, and Henry immediately set about building the gorgeous Baywood Clubhouse for members to enjoy. Since then, the club has developed the facilities and membership to become the best-known tennis club in Eastern North Carolina. Under Henry’s guidance, the club is well known all across North Carolina and resulted in Henry’s induction into the North Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame in 2019.
A New Chapter in Baywood's History—Circa 2020
In 2020 the club gained new owners once more. The new owners plan to continue the many traditions and passion for tennis that have been the club’s cornerstone since its humble beginnings in 1977.
There are many exciting developments for Baywood Racquet Club, often described as “Greenville’s hidden gem,” to enhance our member’s experience and provide a warm welcome to new members.
