CLUB HISTORY

Baywood Racquet Club is Founded—Est. 1977

Baywood Racquet Club began its life in 1977, built by Joe Exum. Joe always had a dream of building the first clay courts in Pitt county, and with the assistance of his wife Mo, they made it a reality. Initially, the club was planned for the east side of Greenville until they found Baywood Drive. They even planted pine trees that are still standing today. The club grew from the original two courts to the five courts we enjoy today.

CLUB HISTORY

Construction on the Baywood Clubhouse Begins—Circa 1994

In 1994 Henry Hostetler purchased the club from Joe and Mo Exum, and Henry immediately set about building the gorgeous Baywood Clubhouse for members to enjoy. Since then, the club has developed the facilities and membership to become the best-known tennis club in Eastern North Carolina. Under Henry’s guidance, the club is well known all across North Carolina and resulted in Henry’s induction into the North Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame in 2019.
